  1. Will do. Just my feeble attempt at adding a bit of humor into a rather boring message when the gallery is updated. I didn't mean to single you out. Sorry.
  2. Because it was cropped out of a much larger picture with lots of people in it. Sybille's picture is also a lot smaller than that started out, too.
  3. I don't think that there's a word or space limit for the posts. There are some posts on here that are incredibly long. If there was, I think that the board would give you an error message and let you know that you had gone over the word count. I know that there is a limit on the amount of smilies you can put in and the board will let you know that. Just remove some and you're good to go. I think that this has more to do with your Internet connection than with the board itself. Every once in a while, there's a little "blip" and everything is gone. If I think I'm going to be writin
  4. I'm not Dearest but...I think that comes under the guideline "Messages requesting participation in and information for books, newspaper, magazine articles, school papers, surveys or theses are not permitted." Usually, people who just want information from us will post that they do - they can't be bothered actually reading posts and stuff. They generally want you to write something and email it to them, make everything very easy for THEM. As it says, requests for participation in and information for books, newspaper, magazine articles, school papers, surveys or theses are all rejected.
  5. It appears that no one except the very few first people, is sending in any pictures.
  6. MizzUla, most everyone who was a member before the upgrade has that message on these new boards. On the past boards it was possible to sign up with more than one username but the same email address. On these boards, it's one name per email. It's related to a "convergence" feature. When the board upgrade was done, the board assumed that people had more names than email addresses and produced that message. So, not to worry!
  7. Clicking the Add Reply button means your words can be read by anyone who wants to read it - and they can respond. If you write or respond to a personal message (PM) only that person knows what you've said. About the "manual", there is one. Check out the Help files near the top right of every page on the message boards or click here for the Help Topics Scroll through the board called Board / Site Info, Questions, Problems (click here to access) and the questions you may have about the boards may have already been answered. Also, you can search everything on the boards here: Searc
  8. Yeah, I know. I do remember that there was a ceremony on AOL crowning me and everything. I probably have that saved somewhere in my Favorites Ah, the good old days...
  9. To help solve any problem easier, there's a form at http://www.power-surge.com/php/contactUs.php3 Be sure to provide your username (MaryP) so that your post(s) can be more easily found. I just did a search of the boards (Search the message boards) and nothing on the Introduce Yourself board came up for you, so I'm not sure where your post would be. When you click on a person's name, her (or his) profile comes up. From therem you can click on Find member's posts. I did that for you and couldn't see any posts that looked like it had more of a name than MaryP. It would be really
  10. Mary, anyone can read these boards - if you look at the members online, you'll always see hundreds of guests -- some of them are search engines indexing the boards as they index the site every day. This is why the guidelines that everyone reads and agrees to when they sign up say in part "12) This message board can be read by anyone. It is also indexed by the various search engines. Avoid posting anything too personal, such as real name, address, telephone number, or anything you wouldn't want someone to read on the Internet." To review all they guidelines, go here: http://www.power-surge
  11. Angel, check out the tips that Dearest provided here: 2005: Chat Room Problems, READ If You're Having Chat Room Problems
  12. On the main page of the boards, http://www.power-surge.com/php/forum/index.php, look at the right hand side. Click on the name of the post and it will take you to the newest one. To read them backwards order, just hit the arrows at the bottom left if there are several pages per topic. To go to the most recent past message, click the ? Next Oldest link near the middle bottom of the boards. Welcome to Power Surge, Oblio.
  13. It's not possible for anyone to upload her own image as an avatar here. With over 18 thousand members, it would take up an incredible amount of server space if only a fraction of the members uploaded images. Server space costs money. There's also the issue of people uploading images which aren't their own causing major copyright infringement issues. I'm sure that Dearest doesn't want to get involved in any legal battles over images that someone uploaded to her site.
  14. Mommy, when you last logged on, you probably set yourself as "invisible". Try logging out and when you log in again, be sure that box isn't checked.
  15. AOL shouldn't have anything to do with it at all. I don't recall seeing anyone with little dancing girls at all, though.
  16. The easiest thing to do is to push the quote button at the bottom right of the post. That button looks like this: A new screen will pop up with all the text in it from the post that you wanted to quote. Type your new stuff under the text that's aready there to be quoted. You can remove any part of the quoted post that you don't want as long as you leave the "tags" in. The tags are words inside brackets like [this]. Those tags must be left alone for the quote part to work right. I hope that was semi-clear!
  17. Donna, after you choose your font tags, they all have to be closed when you're finished with the font changes. The easiest way to do that is to click on the link next to the color dropdown menu that says "Close all Tags"
  18. Gladie, Dearest posted the above info for you awhile ago. That's the only way that you can change your name and keep the posts that you have. If you don't want to do that, you can start from scratch and sign up again with a new user name.
  19. Yes, of course - I wouldn't have mentioned it otherwise It's available several places, but the main site is http://www.iespell.com and it's completely free. I've used it for at least a year or so with no problem.
  20. No, there's no spell check on this version of the boards. If you're using Internet Explorer, you can download a spell check for that which works everywhere that you use this browser. Other than that, if you're really concerned, or if your connection to the internet goes out often, you can write your post in a program like Word and spell check it before you post. Doing that, if your connection goes out on you, you won't have to retype your thoughts later. Some email clients, like AOL, also have spell check, so you can use that feature to check your posts before responding.
  21. If you're talking about the main chatroom at http://www.power-surge.com/chat.htm there are usually people there on Thursday nights starting about 8:3- PM eastern or so. You can arrange with others to meet in there at any time. To use the chatroom, just type in the little text entry line and hit your Enter bar on your keyboard, or the send button in the room. Yout text will show up in the room. The process for the InstaChat is the same. You'll get the hang of it right away
  22. If you click on the names on the right side of the page - like Dearest, the boards are great, it will take you to the posts that are new since you last were here. If you have your cookies set up, the board icons will change so you can see which ones have new posts since your last visit. If you look at the top row with your name: Logged in as: YourName ( Log Out ) ? My Controls ? View New Posts ? My Assistant ? 0 New Messages you can click on View New Posts to get the new posts since your last visit, too. Click on anything blue and underlined to see what happens. If you clic
